BRC Rally Plan

2008

On Rally Days, riders are expected to be at the pony club grounds and ready to ride by 8am sharp. Members are reminded that a gear check must be performed by our instructors before anyone is allowed to mount.
Below is an outline of the Rally season for 2008:

Rally One, Feb 3
Heather and Pam

Assessment/ Introduction

Flatwork
            Position and aids
            Working as a group in the arena, commands and school figures, spacing/dressing
            Check rider’s knowledge
Some small jumps to check rider’s position, confidence and approximate level.

Scavenger hunt
Group games, ie Simon Says, follow the leader
Pairs/drill work

Theory Quiz

Baker’s Shield

Rally Two, Feb 10
Heather

Flatwork and Polework

Flatwork
            Position
            Certificate-level appropriate, ie reins in one hand, rein drill, adjust girth/stirrups, work without stirrups, mounting and dismounting.
            Riding to music

Polework
            Correct, balanced jumping position, inc lower leg stability, and use of neckstraps
            Riding a good line
            Trot poles, canter poles as appropriate

Farrier’s visit (secured)

 

Rally Three, Feb 17

            Variety of fences
            Grids, basic exercises to improve riding between fences
            (Exercises from PC jumping book!)

Unmounted session: ‘Horsemanship When Things Go Wrong’
            Correct leading and handling for led classes/handler classes/safety
            Ground manners and how to train them
            Safe handling in dangerous situations

 

Rally Four, Feb 24

            Basic schooling – improving transitions, (at markers) and obedience
